A quick tour detailing the process from Kiln Dried White Oak lumber to MTL's 8" Walking Horse Plank Unfinished Flooring. The first process is selecting the best face of the White Oak lumber rips to send through the sidematcher at the infeed table. Then the material passes through the Weinig WACO Sidematcher at a relatively slow rate of 200' per minute to ensure the flooring is manufactured with the tightest tolerances of any hardwood flooring manufacturer. After passing through the sidematcher the flooring planks are fed to a certified inspector that marks the large defects with an invisible crayon that a Dimter Saw will cut out. Following the Dimter Saw, the material is fed directly to the Hasko end matchers, where any additional defects are cleaned up. Once the material is endmatched, our NOFMA grader, Kim Lewis feeds the planks to the appropriate nesting station. Once nested, the bundles travel through to our banding station. At the banding station, one out of every ten bundles is inspected by the Head Inspector of quality control, Dan Andrew. We find the best way to inspect our flooring is the same way it is laid. So Dan will rack out an entire bundle to inspect the fit of the side match and end match, while using his calipers to ensure all material is within four thousandths of an inch tolerance.
